About Last Night…
So I mentioned that I wanted to experience the many ways of doing the Camino. A couple of nights ago I stayed at a hotel (living the high life 🙂 ).
Last night, I decided to try the opposite way. I stayed in a hostel for 6 euros. I was in a large room with 24 of my closest friends in bunk beds. The good news is I had a lower bunk. Here is a shot of half of the room.
I had an Olympic Snorer in the bunk next to me. To make matters worse, there was a lovely fragrance of Ben-Gay, farting, belching, sweaty clothes… and did I mention the windows were closed for the night.
I think I prefer the hotel route 🙂
Soooooo, today was another tough day… another 18+ miles (this is the second in a row) and about 1,000ft in elevation.
Rain, Rain, Please Go Away!
It was pretty grey and we had light rain for most of the day 😦 This is the third day in a row with rain. The good news is the temperature was perfect for hiking… got to look at the positive.
Because is was grey and overcast, I didn’t get a lot of photos. So here we go:
I have no idea what this is…
People puts lots of crosses on the fences along the way.
This was a nice church (there a lots of them along the way). Sorry it is a little blurred but it was very dark in the church.
Lots of gold everywhere.
There are a lot of vineyards in the area. This guy is whacking the vines with a stick to remove the new sprouts/growth so the plant can use more energy to produce more grapes.
Like I said, it was a pretty ugly day (weather-wise) so I don’t have a lot of photos. This will give you a good idea of the conditions for the day.
I still can’t get use to being called pilgrim. I keep think of The Duke (John Wayne) calling people pilgrim. I found this YouTube with clips of The Duke saying “pilgrim”… thought you might enjoy it 🙂
- I’m not going to lie… I would much rather hike in the sun 🙂
- I think I’m going to avoid the huge hostels and try to stay in the smaller ones.
- The body is doing okay, but I’m looking forward to tomorrow and “only” having to walk 13 miles.
