About Last Night…

So I mentioned that I wanted to experience the many ways of doing the Camino. A couple of nights ago I stayed at a hotel (living the high life 🙂 ).

Last night, I decided to try the opposite way. I stayed in a hostel for 6 euros. I was in a large room with 24 of my closest friends in bunk beds. The good news is I had a lower bunk. Here is a shot of half of the room.

I had an Olympic Snorer in the bunk next to me. To make matters worse, there was a lovely  fragrance of Ben-Gay, farting, belching, sweaty clothes… and did I mention the windows were closed for the night.

I think I prefer the hotel route 🙂

Soooooo, today was another tough day… another 18+ miles (this is the second in a row) and about 1,000ft in elevation.

Rain, Rain, Please Go Away!

It was pretty grey and we had light rain for most of the day 😦 This is the third day in a row with rain. The good news is the temperature was perfect for hiking… got to look at the positive.

Because is was grey and overcast, I didn’t get a lot of photos. So here we go:

I have no idea what this is…

People puts lots of crosses on the fences along the way.

This was a nice church (there a lots of them along the way). Sorry it is a little blurred but it was very dark in the church.

Lots of gold everywhere.

There are a lot of vineyards in the area. This guy is whacking the vines with a stick to remove the new sprouts/growth so the plant can use more energy to produce more grapes.

Like I said, it was a pretty ugly day (weather-wise) so I don’t have a lot of photos. This will give you a good idea of the conditions for the day.

Howdy Pilgrim

I still can’t get use to being called pilgrim. I keep think of The Duke (John Wayne) calling people pilgrim. I found this YouTube with clips of The Duke saying “pilgrim”… thought you might enjoy it 🙂

Today’s Thoughts

  • I’m not going to lie… I would much rather hike in the sun 🙂
  • I think I’m going to avoid the huge hostels and try to stay in the smaller ones.
  • The body is doing okay, but I’m looking forward to tomorrow and “only” having to walk 13 miles.

  1. Pilgrim — ha, ha! Goodness, you’ve really had a lot of rain. Not sure if hot/humid is better or worse?? All is well in Milwaukee. We’re getting ready to drive to Michigan tomorrow. XO Sus

  2. Well, pilgrim. At least you know what will help you and that means checking out smaller albergues, and that will be interesting. You know, first time I walked, I can’t say I was aware really of obnoxious elements in the sleep[ing areas, even when there were up to 100 in the room! I was sooo tired I just slept when my head hit the pillow.
