Today was a long walk (18 miles) but not a lot of elevation. The bad news was it was grey and rainy for much fo the day 😦
Based on my experience from a couple of days ago, I had my rain cover on my pack and had my raincoat on as well for the trip… Won’t get fooled again 🙂
(historical reference for you younger fellas 🙂 )
The Universe Is Finally Aligned… at least for today 🙂
For the past 40 years (or so), I have started every day with a nice shower. However, when you are on the Camino, you roll out of bed, get dressed and start hiking. Only after you reach your destination do you grab a shower. My universe has been turned upside down!!! Shower in the afternoon… that’s just crazy talk 🙂
But this morning (since I was in a hotel and not a hostel) I started the day with a realllly long hot shower before hitting the trail. It was awesome and for a single moment my universe was aligned 🙂
OKAY, back to reality and the day.
Here are a few shots…
Yes… it was that grey in the morning.
About an hour down the road, I came into this little village:
And found this cool little chapel…
The ceiling was really interesting.
A few more shots along the way…
Some interesting clouds in the background.
The ever present yellow arrow pointing the way.
The wall outside of a diner.
Vineyards were everywhere.
A cairns garden 🙂 kind of fun. The tallest ones were about 7ft tall!
Pilgrims tie stuff to this tree. I thought about hanging my waaaay to small under pants here 🙂
As I enter Logroño (after about 7 hours of hiking) I was greeting with this site. Forsythia trees everywhere. The smell was AMAZING!!!!!
After a quick shower, I headed out for dinner and a cool local restaurant. There were a bunch of old guys playing cards… it was a fun place to eat.
PLUS they had Monday Night
Football Bull Fighting on the big screen. Does it get any better????
I mentioned yesterday that I would try different ways to do the Camino. Tonight I’m staying a big municipal hostel for 6 euros a night. There are 24 people sleeping with me. This should be fun 🙂 …. I hope!
- Yesterday’s blog post asked you to guess what they were growing. The answer is WHITE asparagus, which is very popular in Europe. They need to keep the asparagus covered so the chloroform doesn’t turn the vegetable green.
- WOW!!! I have been hiking for a week and walked 103 miles. I’m ~20% done.
- Fewer people are saying “Buen Camino” on the trail.
