Today was a longer day… 17 miles, but pretty flat.
Blogger’s Note: The terrain continues to more flat and not as interesting as the past few weeks. So, there are fewer “blog worthy” 🙂 photos for the blog. I hear that in a few days (after I pass Leon) the scenery get more interesting.
The day started out with some nice sunshine.
But after a coupe of hours the clouds rolled in. The good news is NO rain!!!!
Can You Guess
Can you guess what sport is played on this court? (And it’s NOT water polo 🙂 )
It is a Jai Alai court. The sport is from the Basque region of Spain and very popular in south Florida. The players wear a wicker basket on their hand and they sling the ball at really high speeds… like 180mph!!!!
Along the way I met a guy from Ireland (Oliver Cole) who is a musician and professor of music in Dublin. He was nursing a sore foot, so I decided to walk with him most of the day to help him take his mind off of his pain. (I don’t know which is worse… listening to me or the pain in his foot 🙂 )
We had a great chat along the way and just a few photo opportunities.
People actually live in this hill.
- I hit the jackpot today! I got a tip from another pilgrim last night about a brand new hostel in Bercianos and Oliver and I got a room there. This place is the “cat’s meow” 🙂 Nice rooms, hot & powerful showers AND real HIGH SPEED WiFi!!!! I am actually up to date on my blog… for the first time since I started the Camino.
- I just realized that I’ve completed more than 50% of the Camino. It is really going fast! Everything is just blurring together. I’m glad I’m doing this blog.
- Lots of pilgrims have been asking me for the link to my blog so they send it to their friends & family back home. A couple days ago I had 788 hits from all over the world!!!
