Today was an easy day… just 12 miles and no real elevation change. The terrain is changing and it is less photogenic, but still very nice.
I got out of the hostel at 7:15am. Here are a couple of shots of Fromista as I was leaving the town.
The day was nice and cool with some sunshine – perfect hiking weather.
Lots of irrigation in the area.
About 3 hours into the hike, I found this little hostel/cafe run by some hippies. It was a fun place to stop.
You can stay in lots of different “rooms” including the teepee, the wagon… see below.
They had several dogs, cats, ducks and geese walking around the place.
In the restaurant…
It was a fun place.
A few more shots along the way.
An old Roman bridge.
Side of a Coke machine reminding me how far I have to go (262 miles)
When I got to Carrion de Los Condes, I had to find a hostel for the night. There were several in the town. I pasted a couple and saw one called Santa Clara – a monastery built in the 1200’s. As I started to approach it, the sun came out for about 30 seconds… a good omen. I walked into the church and in the back was about 15 nuns chanting their prayers. It was a great experience and decided to stay here.
Here is the front of the church.
After I checked in, I was lead to my room. It only had 3 beds in it (very nice!) Amazingly, the other 2 people were Agnes (who I met a few days ago) and Sherona (who I met last week). What a coinky dinky… I guess the sunshine was a good omen 🙂
Here we are having a few drinks. This is the first place I found that had Limoncello!!!… so naturally I had my favorite drink – Diet Coke & Limoncello. The guy who looks like Santa is from France and started his Camino from his home. He has been hiking for +50 days! The other person is Jim from Portland, OR.
- The crappy/lack of WiFi is driving me NUTS!!!! When I have decent WiFi, I can get my photo editing done in 30 minutes and my blogs done in 45 minutes. With sloooow WiFi it takes me hours 😦
- I’m going to have a tough time explaining to Susie (my wife) how I sleep with 2 other women tonight 🙂
- I’m really starting to get into a “battle rhythm” and the days are starting to become routine, but yet still very interesting. Everyday brings a new adventure, new friends, old friends, a new place to sleep, a new menu, new foods…
