So I tried a rest day yesterday (even though I really didn’t need it) and today I’m feeling it! My muscles were very tight this morning. It took about 2 hours of hiking before I felt better. (NOTE TO SELF: Don’t take any more rest days)
OKAY, the good news I only had to hike 14 miles and very little climbing.
As usual, the morning started out cloudy and a little drizzle. Here are some shots hiking out of Burgos:
One of the problems hiking the Camino in a big city is the signs are harder to find. You have to deal with lots of people, cars, road signs, billboards… It makes looking of the yellow arrow king a like playing “Where’s Waldo” 🙂
Here is a good example. Do you see the yellow arrow?
It is on the base of the cross, left side:
I stopped at a supermarket to by my lunch and saw this delicious rack of ham in the store… YUM!
You can also buy it by the slice. This is like Parma (Prosciutto) ham and shaved in super thin slices. It tastes sooooo good!
Here are some shots outside of Burgos (about 2 hours) The skies got very dramatic.
I know the next 2 shots might seem unreal, but the poppies and the lighting made it look like this. I was pretty interesting.
At around noon the sun can out and the clouds were awesome.
And about 1 hour later the clouds came back.
In the distance is the town I stayed in – Hornillos del Camino.
The hostel served a nice pilgrim’s meal. The owner’s wife made a homemade paella. It was delicious!
The women on the left is from France, the women on the right is a doctor from Germany and woman in the middle is Agnes.
- I don’t think I will take any other rest days. I think staying in the routine is important.
- Every hostel is unique. Tonight’s home cooked meal was a new and great experience.
- MAN… it stays light till 10pm! Because I’m so far west in the time zone, it is still light when I go to bed. This was very apparent tonight because the hostel only had lace curtains on the windows and the room was pretty bright when I went to bed.
